How this is calculated

Half-up rounding to the nearest cent. Default is a US digital direct card sale — the public standard path, not Discover and not PayPal.

Direct:
  platform    = round(price × 10%) + $0.50
  processing  = round(price × 2.9%) + $0.30
  net         = price − platform − processing

Discover:
  fee         = round(price × 30%)   /* processing included */
  net         = price − fee

$39 direct card: platform $4.40 + processing $1.43 = $5.83 fees, $33.17 net. $39 Discover: $11.70 fees, $27.30 net.

What this does not apply

High-volume discount: after $20,000 paid sales in a calendar month, new direct sales that month are 5% + $0.50 instead of 10% + $0.50. Resets monthly. Not modeled (same calculator, not a second tool).
PayPal checkout: PayPal’s own fees replace the 2.9% + $0.30 card line. Not modeled.
Payouts: $100 minimum balance to get paid. PayPal payouts add a 2% fee. US instant payouts: 3% (up to $10k). Standard bank payout is the assumption here.
VAT / sales tax: Gumroad is merchant of record and remits tax. Help says they do not charge extra fees on VAT sales to cover processing. Fees here are on the listed price, not tax.
